What Designers Can Expect From The Year of The Sheep

2015 The Year Of The Sheep
Today we welcome the advent of the Chinese New Year 2015 symbolized by the elegant and peaceful sheep. Tranquility, harmony and creativity are in store for us in many aspects. The qualities of the sheep will usher in a sense of elegance, harmonious living, and loyalty from our friends, family and especially our clients.  The sheep is considered the most creative sign in the Chinese zodiac. Those influenced by it are often artistic, sensitive and charming. As designers and architects this is our calling card! We can expect our work to be innovative, fresh and executed with charm and grace!
If last year’s ‘ Year of the Horse’ galloped through our lives at a frantic pace, we can now expect this year to be one of contemplation and appreciation for the accomplishments we have gained from last year’s momentum. Our course will now be noticeably steadier in the Year of the Sheep.  As designers we are always interested in color trends; it is worthy to note the sheep’s preferred colors are cerise, mauve and pink. Our colleague and friend, Dr. Simona Manini, who practices Feng Shui for architecture, has a few tips for 2015 that we’d like to share.

  • Get rid of broken, old and unused things: Things that are old and irreparably damaged such as old appliances, clothing and out of date paperwork should be thrown out or recycled. Holding on to these items is blocking the flow of new energy from revitalizing your living space.
  • Spring Cleaning: After clearing away the old and unused clutter, it is important to really clean that space. In doing so, Dr. Mainini explains that you are essentially disrupting the stagnation and clearing the dust to make room for new energy and a more enhanced living area.
  • Rearrange your furniture: Different energies are going to be occupying new areas in 2015. Take some time to consider moving a desk, a sofa or a chair into a different area that might have a more productive and functional location. Small shifts like these can give you an entirely different perspective on how you use that space.

Keeping in the spirit on the Chinese New Year, we visited one of the most esteemed showrooms in Los Angeles for elegant Chinese furnishings. Charles Jacobsen, Inc. has the finest collection of antique Chinese and Asian furniture and accessories. Even if you don’t have a shopping mission, it is worth a trip just to visit their showroom.
